To coincide with the release of the program The Ballad of Big Al (a spin-off of the Walking With Dinosaurs series), the BBC released an online role-playing game, deemed the Big Al Game. The player would guide a growing Allosaurus through the dangers of the Late Jurassic, and learn information about dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals on the way.

After 2011, the BBC updated their website with the release of the documentary Planet Dinosaur. With this came the removal of the beloved Big Al game, as well as several other less popular games and programs. It has been replaced by an unrelated game based on Planet Dinosaur.

Gah! A lost media piece I actually saw! Fun game growing up, takes me back. Can't believe they decided to ax it.

They also had a mammal version, but I always failed at it. Never understood the rules.

I'd pay to have the back, I dont know why they had to replace it as opposed to just adding the other game. I wonder if we stirred up enough interest we could convince them to reinstate it...

This game was so simple and engaging at the same time. I watched Walking With Dinosaurs Big Al when I was a little kid, didn't get my first computer until puberty, and immediately fell in love with my favorite dinosaur all over again. I remember a few play-throughs of mines, like that one (or a few) time(s) I got eaten by my mom because she didn't recognize me when I came back from an adventure three tiles away. I remember being swept away in the river, and even getting stuck in the quick sand once. Being ambushed and killed by one of my own kin because I chose to wait instead of running away. I remember traveling all the way to the east (can't remember what I found out there but sand and stone) and trying to run back to the oasis hoping to find a meal. I remember when I finally made it to adult status and tried mating with several females (and several other species...I think I was actually killed by one homophobic Allo when I made the mistake of trying to seduce him-completely accidental) only to be savagely rejected when I hit the trivia mini-game. Hell...I remember that ONE time when I went throughout the entire game without dying once, just surviving on a combination of luck and experience. I made so many babies on that playthrough.

Point of the matter is...I miss this game. It is literally the best dinosaur game to date, and all it has are pictures. I would pay to have a copy of it for myself.

I really hope they bring it back, only thing I like on BBC website. I never watch BBC. They expect me to pay an expensive TV licence for a website and shows I don't watch, yet they won't bring back a game people enjoyed playing. Sounds about right.
