Blue's Clues spent many years in development, with its writers experimenting around with different ideas. While the show became wildly popular, lasting more than a decade, it almost didn't quite get its paws off the ground. The show itself had its first airing in 1996, but many fans are unaware of the unaired 1995 pilot created with the working title, Blue Prints.

Story

The pilot was only shown to a few preschoolers as a way to test out the show's interactive elements and formulas. According to reports, the children ate it up, but there were several changes that needed to be made. Blue was originally going to be a cat named Mr. Orange, and later, Mr. Blue. Mr. Salt also had a Brooklyn accent as a contrast to the French accent he was ultimately given. Steve also sported a red shirt instead of his signature green stripes.

The pilot was obscure, and motly unknown until 2006 when Nickelodeon aired a 10-year anniversary special detailing the history of the show. A few very short clips of the pilot were shown and the crew members commented on it. After the airing, fans of the series scoured online resources, including bootlegs, torrents, and file-sharing sites. Nickelodeon has yet to release the episode, as they felt it was too different from the rest of the series.

You guys could try contacting Angela Santomero through her email and politely ask her to release it since it is like the 20th anniversary of the show. Long shot, but the worst she could say is no or not respond...

It IS a Nickelodeon show, but it's not a Nick Jr. show.

All right, people. I've sent the creator a long email about the pilot, and how we are trying to find the full pilot. I've included the link back to this page so she can see what all of the fuss is about. This MAY give her a better understanding of what we're looking for.

I've gotten a reply back from her. Here's the message

"Hello all. Happy to hear there's still such enthusiasm with Blue's Clues, or shall I say "Blue Prints"!

All TV/streaming shows have their pilot. These are previewed by execs & decision makers to hopefully green light a show to head (or not to head) into season production.

Pilots are never aired because they're usually a raw glimpse of the overall idea. If they get a thumbs up, there are plenty of notes regarding changes that must be made for season production.  Nick Jr is the only one that would have a copy (if it still exists), but chances are, the fully aired episode 101 (SnackTime) is the closest you'll get to it.

I'm digging all the BC love & who knows, perhaps there will be a remake up the road ahead? Only time will tell :)

All the best & thanks for reaching out!"

Is she implying that epsiode 101 is essentially a re-shot version of the 1995 pilot? I grew up with this show and would love to see the whole pilot!

If anything, we should start a petition, to show Nickelodeon/Nick Jr. that there is interest! (That is, if they still have it in their archives)

I really hope we get to see this some day, I loved Blues Clues as a kid, and I really want to see what the original concept was like!
