In November 1997, Avraham Kadar, M.D. created The Mysteries Of Life, a planned series of shorts for a website called KadMed.com. Two shorts, "Skeleton" and "Peak Flow", which were about a person's skeleton and how to use a peak flow meter respectively, were put online. There were plans for other shorts, but they were put on hold after Kadar decided to work on other projects.

In early 1999, Kadar launched BrainPOP.com, a continuation of The Mysteries of Life. As part of the site's launch, "Skeleton" and "Peak Flow" were re-animated in Flash, and in 2006, they had many major changes as part of a site rehaul.

The original shorts were eventually found via Internet Archive's Wayback Machine and can be viewed by either downloading the files or installing Adobe Shockwave (not Adobe Flash) to play the files on the page. Apart from audio quality and minor art/design changes, they don't have many differences.
