Chuckles the Clown 80's Ads
Status Lost

In the mid-to-late 80's, when 1-900/976 numbers were at their peak, a commercial aired for a service where children could become rockstars and sing via the telephone with a fictional clown called Chuckles the Clown. The commercial began with a claymation clown (the titular Chuckles of the service) singing, and then cut to a boy jumping on his bed in his bedroom while his mom vaccums the room. A few seconds later, the boy turns into a rockstar and Chuckles tells the viewers about the hotline. This ad has been remembered by many children who grew up in the 80's, but has never been found on the internet. However, in 2009, an ad for a Easter Bunny hotline with similar animation showed up on YouTube, but has since been taken down. All that remains are the lyrics to the ad, which were posted on an 80's pop culture newsgroup.

The lyrics (as posted on said newsgroup)

Time to rock and roll with Chuckles The Clown

We are waiting for the sound of your tone

You can be in the Chuckles Band

Just sing into the telephone!

You can be in the Chuckles Band

Just sing into the telephone!

I have seen this ad, with my own eyes, in fact I have it on tape. But don't get too upbeat...I have literally thousands of VHS tapes, it could take years to find. But I'm absolutely, bet-my-life-certain that I HAVE seen this repeatedly and have it on tape.

If memory serves, this ad played either during Beverly Hills Teens or the Teddy Ruxpin show, one or the other, I know cause that was on the tape. Yes I watched Beverly Hills Teens, the girls were hot, I make no excuses. I may also have a GI Joe tape with this on it but I'm not as certain as the BHT and TR tapes. Anyway...

I also remember, and maybe this was a different version, but I recall at parts the clown would do like "magic" or something and turn into or summon a "real kid" (some white kid I recall in a yellow shirt) to his magical concert thing.

There was also a similar He-Man "call us and have adventures" thing and also I distinctly recall some similar Superman one. In fact memory serves they're all the same company or something, cause I CALLED ONE once, the He-Man one, and it led to the Superman one.

Anyway, that's all I got for memory as it's been like twenty-seven years! I hope this helps with your search for creepy clowns lol, Happy Halloween!
