Status Lost

Invader Zim needs little introduction. It is by far the most popular and fondly-remembered Nick Toon, despite being cancelled halfway through its second season. Originally aired in 2001, it ran in syndication in the US up until 2006.

Fans have been hoping for a revival for years, and in 2015, Oni Press started publishing a well-received Invader Zim comic series. Prior to Invader Zim, creator Jhonen Vasquez was known for writing comics such as Johnny The Homicidal Maniac, I Feel Sick, and Squee! before starting work at Nickelodeon.

Around 1999, a pitch pilot for Invader Zim was completed, featuring Billy West as Zim (Richard Steven Horvitz would go on to replace him). The episode was never shown on television, and is a special feature on the Volume 1 DVD.

A 3D animation test was made for the sequence in which Zim and Dib become involved in a food fight in the school cafeteria. Screenshots of the 3D animation test have since been found, but not full video.

In the pilot episode itself, the food fight sequence is animated in 2D, as seen below.

Who put my article on here? Who ever did, forgot to actually upload the photos.

The original is on the old wiki, which has the pictures on there and the article's set out nice.

Isn't this against the rules? Reynard has said that articles should be written, corrected and posted all in one go, not just left as a page import with broken image files. (Which, duh, of course don't work because they're linked to the Wikia server and not to TLM.)

I'm going to remove the pilot 9 image. It's animated in 2D and it's clearly just a poor screenshot of something from the pilot episode's food fight sequence.

Actually It was in the test too. Here's what ThirstyGenie said about it.

"Here's more screenshots though these are a little different, it's still in 3d but looks much different than what the others look like, like the animators were trying to blend the 2d and 3d animation together. The images were posted by Steve Russel who was a director for IZ on the IZ fan page (now abandoned) a few years back, so I guess you could try contacting him about it, though I highly doubt he'll say much."

Ah, I'm sorry. Feel free to add it back in.

(Also, from my forays into the Invader Zim fandom when I was a teen... I thought the prevalent rumour was that Steve Ressell and Jhonen Vasquez had a ton of creative and personal differences with each other. Since neither of them like talking much about Invader Zim any more (due to the rabid fans), I'm guessing it's not going to be easy to talk to Ressell OR Vasquez about this.)

I heard about more invader zim lost media. I heard the first few episodes (6 or 7 i think) all had darker animations and some other changes, overall adding a darker meaning to the show as a whole. The most well known change is the statue of liberty being seen underwater, my brother told me he saw this in april 2001, he was right. In the end, these original episodes need to be seen. I would consider them lost.

The reason the original scenes were never shown was nickelodeon considering them "too disturbing for children"

Actually, there's some truth to that.

There's one episode ("Bestest Friend") where there IS an unedited and an edited version floated around. Its initial TV airing (which was saved by people recording it during syndication in other countries)... Basically, one character chases after a squirrel (after a fairly dark and violent 'brain-swapping' scene) and falls onto a power line besides the house.

As you can imagine, Nick was pressured into editing the episode for all consecutive airings. It cuts out the part with the power lines... but leaves in the dark and violent 'brain-swapping' scene which involves actual ripping out of the eyeballs. Huh.

I don't get Viacom. I really don't. I mean, they take EVERYTHING that they own down.
