In 2004, McDonald's in the UK made a few television advertisements for kids to keep healthy. This would feature the character of Ronald McDonald and a few creatures called the YumChums.

Adverts

These series of adverts go like this: It would show Ronald McDonald at a gym, and then he would rub his stomach while saying "Yum, yum. What's going on in my tum?" and then show what is inside his stomach; pitch black with cartoon-like eyes asking if they're ready. It would suddenly fade into a colorful environment with the YumChum gang:

  • A purple blobby character who has a skateboard.
  • A female character who has a swirly tail and likes dancing.
  • A short, smart green creature with glasses.
  • A big, spherical brown hairy monster.
  • A small, blue bouncy ball like creature with a baseball cap.

All these characters would sing about the joy of being healthy and they would sing one of these songs.

A screenshot from the 5 a day ad.

-5 a Day: (Found) This advert involves the group of characters turning into fruit and vegetables, high-fiving each other, and singing about eating 5 food groups a day. One notable part involves the big monster character growing an apple stem on top of its head. Lyrics were found on a website titled 'CreamCheese', and a screenshot was discovered. Recently, the full advert was discovered on June 16th, 2017 by YouTuber Gondarth.

-Drinking Water: This advert had the characters swimming in water whilst singing a song about it. One part is known to feature the green creature character drinking water from a bottle and breaking the fourth wall by telling the viewer to drink plenty of water, and another featuring Ronald McDonald drinking water from a water cooler.

-Too Many Treats: Nothing much is known, though the lyrics are also found on CreamCheese.

-Exercising: (Found) This advert featured the characters doing activities and playing football/soccer with the bouncy ball creature. The advert was recovered on June 30, 2017, by YouTuber Gondarth.

At the end of the songs, it would come back to Ronald McDonald, who would be doing an activity related to the song, like juggling tomatoes in the 5 a day advert for example, causing them to splatter on the screen. The adverts would end with the URL for the YumChums website as well as the slogan said by Ronald himself "It's what I eat, and what I do, I'm lovin' it".

Lyrics of the Songs

Five-A-Day (Found)

We're looking for our veggies, 5 a day is what we need.
We've got to have our veggies today, hey hey!
We're feeling kinda fruity, come on now be good to me!
We've got to have'em all to play, hey hey!

We're looking for our veggies, 5 a day is what we need.
We've got to have our veggies today, hey hey!

5, gimme 5. Gimme gimme gimme 5-a-day!
5, gimme 5. Gimme gimme gimme 5-a-day!

We're feeling kinda fruity, come on now be good to me!
We've got to have'em all to play, hey hey HEY!

While I never lived in the UK, I remember seeing a show starring Ronald McDonald and the Yum Chums. I don't think it was this though

So the flash file that appears on the website is called host_movie.swf and when put into my flash decompiler, an action shows that there is another file on the site called yumChums_v4.swf. Unfortunately, the Internet Archive does not have an archive of that file.

Totally remember this. Aired as adverts on Nick (I think, this was 13 years ago after all), lasted maybe a minute or so? I remember the drinking water one especially, I think they said to drink seven glasses a day?

Hey I remember contributing in that page on the older wiki :D

I honestly wished someone would find an entire advert and post it on YT, especially the five a day one :S

Actually, I remember a comment posted on this video along the uploader if he has the YumChums ad (he probably doesn't). It's been removed though.

I think the Too Many Treats song was used as an intro for each of the ads from what I remember. They must've been cut from the 2005 broadcasts.

I just read on a random unrelated forum page that one of the ads may have had a parody of chumbawumbas tubthumping as the song.
