Nicktropolis is an MMORPG made for the Nickelodeon website in January 30, 2007. It was created to have a world for kids with safe chat features. The game allowed you to create and customize your character and decorate your room.

In 2010, it was completely rebranded to "The Club", which used a few different assets, but the idea was the same. In 2013, "The Club" was closed with a few assets remaining. And in 2016, all remaining assets carried over were closed when Nickelodeon removed the option to join as a user on the website.

Gameplay

Not a lot is known about Nicktropolis, stuff like usernames were called "Nicknames", and your rooms are put in a place called "Nickname Lane"

The in-game currency were called Nickpoints, it is gained in different areas of the Nickelodeon website. It was used to buy furniture for your room.

They are areas in Nicktropolis that use Nickelodeon branding, a few are called "TeeNick Point", "Downtown Nicktropolis", "The Pier", "Nickname Lane", and "Nicktoons Boulevard." Each area has its own things to do.

Findings

Assets for Nicktropolis are rare and don't surface often. With that said, a few still have surfaced.

Someone with the name "NickyNouse" created a scratch game with the assets that have surfaced. The game is made to be a recreation of the Nicktropolis game, though with very few assets that have surfaced, isn't close to the original. [1]

I remember there were areas based on various nicktoons from the time, I remember one was based on Avatar the Last Airbender?

Yes, they did have the four Avatar nations, they also had a Tak and the power of Juju area as well as Barnyard and so much more! Thank you Paris for creating the article for me. Now we may be able to hopefully get more of a search-party for it.

Bad News: File is not there :(

Good news: I messaged Mr. Alex Westerman (Creative Director of Nicktropolis) about making a prototype of the game public

I remember that depending on the stage you went to, your avatar would change depending on the setting. For example: in spongebob's place, you became a fish.

Back at the Barnyard: a Cow

Indeed that is what happened. So many fun small things to do in such a world like that.

Wasn't this the game from from that Tumblr user that used to ask people for their "favorite pet," and then they would go into their account and into their room and take their stuff?

I actually remember playing this when I remembered my old login info from back in 2004. Sadly I never though of screencapping such "gameplay." Rip my old account tho

I know for a fact that when you played the game there where multiple places (one for each area if it had one) where you could watch episodes of a show depending on which land you were in. I remember the barnyard and spongebob ones the most with the spongebob one being in reference to the theater in the show. Also I vaguely remember there being an Halloween event where you could become a werewolf or something, if I recall correctly you could pick teams during this event and use items or something maybe to throw at each other? At this point it's all hazy considering this was like 8 years ago

Same guy just made a username I don't know if this was known but Nickpoints could obtained by playing games throughout the entire site not just Nicktropolis. If i recall correctly you could use them to buy dumb "trading cards" that you could print off from tv shows on another part of the site.

Also I'm finding a ton of crappy hypercam videos of the game on youtube so look those up my dudes.

I remember this, and I remember the grueling process of making a Nick account before I played. At most I just have blurry memories of my default room.

I remember this! There was an aquarium where you could create fishes. There was also a comic book store where you could read comics based on tv shows - I can vaguely remember a spongebob magazine, fairly odd parents and Barnyard (possibly?) -- plus I can vaguely remember there was also a comic creator where users could create a comic that would then go on sale in the virtual store for people to see/buy for their homes. I would've played this game in early 2008. I always found it odd that despite the game advertising the fact that you could create a comic for others to see, it never seemed to happen and only the same few comics would be on sale. I only remember that because I used to be Full of Rage at the fact nobody else would get to see my seven year old comedic genius.......

Quite from his message on Facebook messenger:

"Hi. Sorry for the delay. I love that you guys are keeping the spirit of Nicktropolis alive. It was a tremendous joy creating the world and to see it live on in your memories shows that what we created had meaning and our efforts were appreciated by our users. Unfortunately I am bound by various contracts and agreements with Viacom that prevent me from passing off files to you. I can tell you that even if you were to obtain the game files you wouldn't be able to actually run the game. It was architected and built on several propriety systems that you would not be able to get access to. You might find my patent work on Nicktropolis interesting: https://alex.../my-patents/ - they illustrate some of the complexities of the game design. LMK if you have other questions. Happy to help out or answer questions where I can. ~Best. Alex"
