Status Partially Lost

Out of Jimmy's Head was a live action/animated show created by Tim McKeon and Adam Pava that aired on Cartoon Network from September 14th, 2007 to May 29th, 2008. It was based off a live action/animated television film made by the same people titled Re-Animated.

Plot

The film Re-Animated is about 7th grader Jimmy Roberts (played by Dominic Janes) getting the brain of famed cartoonist Milt Appleday (Fred Willard) after being hit by a train. After he receives the brain, Jimmy can see all of Milt's famous creations including Golly Gopher (Paul Reubens in the movie; Carlos Alazraqui in the show), Dolly Gopher (Ellen Greene), Tux the Penguin (Tom Kenny), Crocco the Alligator (Brian Posehn), and the two mute characters Pickles and Prickles. Meanwhile, Milt's son, Sonny Appleday (Matt Knudsen), wants to steal the brain from Jimmy so that he can become as successful as his father and take over the world.

The show itself continues the story of Re-Animated, with Jimmy still having Milt's brain, and Sonny still trying to steal it.

Reception and Production

Both the film and the show were panned by critics and viewers. Like many of their new shows at the time, many CN fans complained about a live action show being aired on the network, which was almost exclusively known for cartoons up until then. The show's writing in general was also criticized. Despite all of that, however, it has won a few awards, including a Young Artist Award for "Best Ensemble Cast".

The show also experienced several problems production-wise. Out of Jimmy's Head was the only series on the network to be affected by the 2007 Writers Guild of America strike. While the show had already been completed by the time the strike occurred, it did prevent the writers from assisting with the editing and post-production process, which lead to the series adding a laugh track in episode 8 onward.

Availability

Due to the show's unpopularity, few home media releases were made for it. In fact, only one known region-free DVD release was made in the UK, and even then said DVD only had three of the show's 20 episodes.

While most of the show's original dub is lost, the majority of the series' episodes are available online in Romanian, where it is known as Din Mintea Lui Jimmy (From the Mind Of Jimmy). Additionally, an emmy DVD (a DVD created for the purpose of review for a potential award) containing "Sick Day" was leaked online.

The Spanish Latin American dub is also mostly lost since it NEVER aired in Cartoon Network LATAM (whole region & Brazil). It only aired on a local Mexican channel, Canal 5, a few years back which shows that the show was fully dubbed to that territory. I have only found the opening dubbed in Spanish and not sure if there's any episode around. The dubbed title was "Un cerebro animado" and used the same dub cast as "Re-Animado".

For US promos.. I should //at least// have one or two on some old VHS as I've recorded CN programing back in the day (but very very few). I actually remember watching this show in the past and how it tried so hard. It was even wORST when the laugh track was added. I believe a few early episodes even were re-edited to add the laugh track.

Another thing I did remember was the 3D experiment CN did at some point and I think this show was part of that for one episode.

That's not true. It also aired here in Venezuela, and im pretty sure that aired on Boomerang (and i think it aired shortly on Nickelodeon) on the morning. I also remember changing the channel everytime i saw the show because (honestly) it was sh*t.

i disagree, nothing deserves to be lost wether its good or bad, if nothing learned from the past then history is doomed to repeat

Tbh, though, is there really a demand (fans wanting DVDs/TV rips) or historical necessity for this show? Clearly it isn't the former.

It's probably a good thing this show is partially lost... This was a bit of a rut in CN's history... I remember watching it when I was like 7 or 8 and thinking "What is this? Where the heck are the cartoons?" In all honesty, it's better we forget this because it was the beginning of CN's live-action phase.

The American DVD of the TV movie promised Spanish and French audio, but it was only in English. I managed to recoup the French cast in 2012, which is the same as the TV show.

Ghosts also has a 3D edition that aired only once (same with Fosters Home). It was part of a Halloween promotion that used the red and blue glasses.

I enjoyed this when I was younger. If I were to see it again, I would probably not enjoy it anymore. So, I'd rather not rewatch it.
