Pikmin 3 Deleted Character (2013)

Pikmin 3 character concept art (D being the intended 4th character).

The Pikmin franchise is one of Nintendo's currently popular video game series. The first adaptation was released as a Gamecube launch title in 2001, with a sequel for the same system in 2004, both to critical acclaim. The third installment, Pikmin 3, spent nine years in development hell.

The game went through several different phases. At first, it was originally intended for the Wii, but eventually moved up to the Wii U, allegedly removing some gameplay elements.

A lot of these elements remain unknown, but one element that has been discovered was the presence of a fourth character. He or she is visible in early concept art, and it is said that the character wasn't removed until late in the game's development.

No video footage can be found of this "D" character, as it never appeared in any trailers or demos. With the Wii U having only been out since 2012, many game hackers are still having trouble cracking the codes to get into the console's games, so there's no knowing if the character exists in the game's source code somewhere. The code could be hiding many early gameplay mechanics, too. Until the secret is unraveled, the concept art is all that remains of this mysterious "D" character.
