Season of the Witch is a 1973 horror film directed by George A. Romero. He had trouble finding distributors for the film, and was eventually distributed as a softcore pornography film called Hungry Wives! This version cut the original 130-minute cut to 89 minutes. It was met with poor reviews, much like his other films from the early 1970s.
The film was re-released under its current title in 1978 following the success of Dawn of the Dead with a restored length of 104 minutes using clips from his original cut. This version received a DVD release in 2005.[1] Since then, the rest of the original film negative and Romero's original cut have been lost.[2]
