The Dillinger Escape Plan are a mathcore band based in Morris Plains, New Jersey. They are well known for their outrageous and often destructive live performances as well as being one of the most critically acclaimed bands of the 21st century. In 2016 before the release of their final album Dissociation, Dillinger announced that they would disband the following year.

Out of the many concerts, they have done in their lifespan; a certain performance stood out as among the most shocking in rock history. Their first performance at England’s Reading Festival in 2002 made national headlines when in the middle of the show, vocalist/frontman Greg Puciato defecated in full view onstage, put it in a paper bag (some accounts say he did it in a towel) and threw it into the audience before smearing the rest on himself. He was quoted as saying, “This is a bag of shit. I just thought I’d show this to you, so you’ll recognize it later on in the day,” referring to the quality of the music at the festival and the bands that were on before them. While their show was regarded as one of the best Reading performances of the decade, it nearly resulted in TDEP being banned in the UK for violation of public decency laws. They performed again in Reading in 2016, with Greg doing the set while sitting on a couch and drinking tea while reading a newspaper.

While there is one video of this set viewable on YouTube, there is no recorded footage of the defecation incident due to the introduction of consumer video recording at the time and the vulgar nature of Greg’s act. In one interview, guitarist Ben Weinman implies that there is audio proof, which included Puciato gagging as he sang, but it is unlikely that it would have surfaced.

"Sugar Coated Sour," the only song from this set available on YouTube.
