Andi Mack is a comedy-drama series that ran for three seasons from April 7th, 2017 to July 26th, 2019 on Disney Channel. The protagonist is Andi Mack, an Asian-American girl who copes with the fact that the woman she thought was her older sister is actually her mother. Andi Mack is a progressive, top-rated show that made history by introducing Disney’s first gay main character. Other topics of the show include nontraditional families, teen pregnancy, anxiety attacks, financial instability, learning disabilities, emotional abuse, and gun safety. Some deleted scenes from its 3rd and final season (which have never been aired in the U.S.) have shown up in a few places.[1]

Background

On February 19th, 2018, an announcement was made to confirm the renewal of the show with its 3rd season. Filming began in June 2018 and ended in December 2018. A scene involving the Mack family was shot in a restaurant setting. A wedding between two of the main characters, Bex Mack and Bowie Quinn, was shot at Snuck Farm in Pleasant Grove, Utah. Season 3 began airing on October 8th, 2018 before the initial filming period ended.[2]

Recurring cast member Stoney Westmoreland was arrested with criminal charges on December 14th, 2018. After his arrest, Disney decided to remove his character, Ham Mack, from the 14 remaining episodes of the season. Previous episodes involving Westmoreland were pulled from streaming services, all unaired scenes involving him were cut, and several scenes from later episodes were reshot during a series hiatus and second filming period in March 2019.[3]

Availability

The first episode to suffer from cut scenes was episode 309, "Secret Society", in January 2019, and it was cut to 18 minutes before the crew could reshoot any scenes. While the uncut episode never aired in the U.S., it aired on the Australian TV service Foxtel. A deleted scene from this episode was uploaded to YouTube by DisneyChannelUK in an unedited sneak peek video that has been deleted for its mention of Ham Mack. In the scene, the mother, Celia Mack, and bride, Bex Mack, take a break from shopping for a wedding dress online. Celia tells Bex that her father, Ham Mack, feels left out of the wedding planning process, and he wants the groom to ask his permission to marry Bex.

The restaurant scene in episode 314, "Hammer Time", was reshot with the rest of the Mack family, and Ham Mack was officially written off the show in the rewritten scene.

Episode 318, the wedding episode, was cut entirely. The original wedding at Snuck Farm was replaced with a smaller, informal wedding at a mountain gazebo in a later episode, and side plots were moved to other episodes.[4]

It is unknown if any of the unaired footage has been archived by Disney. Aside from one uncut episode and a YouTube promotional video that has been deleted, none of the original scenes have resurfaced, and an entire episode is now lost to the public.
