Dean Malenko vs Mistico (lost footage of professional wrestling match; 2007)
During filming for the February 27th 2007 episode of WWE Friday Night SmackDown!, [1] before the show there was a "Dark Match" which saw a match between Dean Malenko and Mistico occur. Due to the match's nature of being a "Dark Match" before the show, it was not aired by the company or released in any form
Background
The match was a tryout for Mexican Professional Wrestler Luis Ignacio Urive Alvirde who at the time was performing under the name of Mistico. He had gained much success in the Mexican wrestling scene [2] before having this match for WWE where he wrestled Dean Malenko, commonly known as "The Man Of 1,000 Holds" and widely renowned as one of the most highly respected veterans of the industry in a tryout. Dean Malenko (Real Name Dean Simon)[3] worked for WWE from 2000 to 2001 as an active wrestler before quietly retiring and transitioning to a backstage agent role. However Dean returned to the ring for this tryout match with Mistico. [4]
Details of the match are almost entirely unknown other than the date it occurred and that at the end Mistico defeated Dean Malenko. Although Mistico wouldn't get the job with WWE, he'd later be signed in 2011 [5] under the name Sin Cara where he'd wrestle until his release in January of 2014. [6]
Availability
The match is completely unavailable to the public and hasn't been released by WWE in any shape or form.
