Skatoony was a British animated quiz show that pitted 3 real-life child contestants against 3 animated contestants in 3 rounds of quizzing, it aired on Cartoon Network from 2006-2008 with reruns lasting until August 2017, throughout the show's lifespan it managed to get several overseas versions including a Hindi version which aired on Pogo & Cartoon Network India from 2007-2010.

Production

Originally, it was believed that 26 episodes of the Hindi adaptation were made, spanning across 2 seasons. However, it is known that at least 2 episodes of Season 3 were made, after clips of "Halloween" and "Stoopid Santa" were discovered. Currently, it is unknown if the remaining 12 episodes of Season 3 were produced so at the moment, the episode count is 28.

On August 31st, 2007, a TBI article was published which stated that Cartoon Network had commissioned a Hindi version of Skatoony.

It is unknown when Season 1 exactly premiered but it is said to have aired around Late 2007 to Early 2008.

According to an Afaqs! article published on September 18th, 2008, the first Hindi season of Skatoony was a huge success which led to a second season being commissioned by POGO.

The second Hindi season of Skatoony began airing on September 21st, 2008. It is unknown how successful the second season was due to no further news articles being made regarding the Hindi version.

Skatoony's third Hindi season is the most obscure out of the three seasons, only 2 episodes were confirmed to exist thanks to 2 clips of season 3 that were uploaded to an animator's YouTube channel back in 2011. Thanks to the Sanskritti Productions LinkedIn profile, it is known that work on the show continued to as late as November-December 2010, we're unsure if that was the time that Season 3 aired, if it wasn't then this means that the show had begun airing Season 3 sometime in 2011.

The adaptation was made by Miditech Studios Pvt Ltd. However another studio, Frames Factory, uploaded the show's intro in 2016 on YouTube & Vimeo. Vivi5, yet another studio, featured a short clip of S1E7 - To The Quiz Cave on one of their reels back in 2015

Differences

This version of the show is rather notable as it uses brand new music produced solely for the Hindi version, not only that, but different names for characters were used (Chudd Chudders became Chak Chakachak, Tony Eagle-Eyes became Mr Chadda and The Earl became Jimmy Kundu)

Completely original characters were also made solely for the Hindi adaptation, such as:

Chakram & Bhootal who were the replacement characters for Dr Jerkhill & Mr Hives.

And Gudiya Devi (Roughly translating to "Doll Goddess") who was the replacement for Hyacinth. These new characters were designed by James Fox & Suvrat Tandon

The prize which was obtainable upon winning an episode of this version was a Sony PlayStation 3.

Airing

Season 1- Every air date for the episodes of Season 1 are unknown. All we know is that the first episode presumably aired sometime in Autumn/Fall 2007

Season 2- Unlike Season 1, we know that S2E1 - Body Swap aired on September 21, 2008 at 9:30AM. With this information, we can assume that the final episode of Season 2, Destination Moon, aired in December 2008.

Season 3- Similar to Season 1, we haven't the slightest clue as to when the episodes of Season 3 aired. All we know is that production on the show ended in December 2010, meaning that Season 3 probably aired around that time.

Misc- According to a Pogo website snapshot from February 6, 2012, we know that an unknown episode of Skatoony aired at 1:00AM

Avaliability

While full episodes are currently lost, you can find clips of the Hindi version on Youtube, Vimeo & Behance. You can also find images on websites such as the Vivi5 character design page.

Online Games

According to 2008-2010 Wayback Machine snapshots of the Cartoon Network India website. Several games could be played on the Skatoony minisite. Sadly, these games are unplayable and unable to be ran. All we know are the names of what they were, thanks to these names, we can give a pretty good guess as to what they were:

bogus.jsp/php - A Bang On Or Bogus Game

dung.jsp - A Hoo Flung Dung Game

champ.jsp/php - A Quiz Champ Challenge Game.

The names of these games retain their original English names. However, in the Hindi version, while the Quiz Champ Challenge kept its English name, Hoo Flung Dung & Bang On Or Bogus had new names for the Hindi version.

Round Names

Thanks to a page on the old Miditech website (miditech.tv) we know the translations to some of the round names:

Bang On! Or Bogus? became Jhakkas! Ya Bakwaas?

Egg Noggin became Ande Ka Funda

Danger Box retained it's original English name and so did the Quiz Champ Challenge

Wear In The World? became Duniya Topi Mein?

And the last round mentioned on the page was a round titled "Taaza Tabeley Se". Currently, it is unknown what this round could have been. Unlike the other rounds that have descriptions which helped us deduce what they were. The only description provided for TTS was that it "should not need too many guesses".
