TDK Zenkoku Caravan Star Soldier (lost build of Famicom shoot 'em up game used for the event; 1986)
TDK Zenkoku Caravan Star Soldier (TDK全国キャラバン スターソルジャー) is a not-for-sale version of Hudson's Star Soldier shoot 'em up game for Famicom. It was used in the "2nd TDK National Caravan: Famicom Tournament" (第2回TDK全国キャラバン ファミコン大会), a game event sponsored by Hudson and TDK that traveled throughout Japan from July 20 to August 30, 1986.
Overview
One major difference from the released original Star Soldier is the addition of a large TDK logo and the words "National Caravan" on the title screen. This version has not currently surfaced online and has not been dumped.
Toshiyuki Takahashi, aka "Takahashi Meijin", a former Hudson employee and star of children during Famicom's heyday, is in possession of one of the ROM. According to Takahashi, 45 were produced for the event, but since they were only used for the event, he disposed of them after the event without thinking twice, and the one in his possession is the only one that escaped disposal[1].
It was brought to the Takahashi Meijin's Midnight Game Tournament vol. 9 (高橋名人の真夜中のゲーム大会 Vol.9) event hosted by Takahashi at Shinjuku Loft Plus One on May 31, 2014, where it was actually played[2].
