Status: Lost

Blowin' in the Wind is a animated short created by Pixar in the early 1980s. The short is reportedly a short test animation made by the company in 1985, similar to other test animations such as Beach Chair and Flags and Waves. Its exact content and nature is unknown, as little information of the short has been made available. Its existence is only known through its inclusion on the Made in Point Richmond DVD given to employees before the company moved locations.

Existence

In the early 2000s, after the completion of For The Birds, Pixar made an employee-exclusive DVD called Made In Point Richmond.[1] As the name suggests, it contained a wealth of non-film content produced by the studio before the move from Point Richmond, California to Emeryville, California, including the various short films produced at the studio up to that point.

Among the short films, trailers, F/X work, television work and party videos is a previously unknown short film called Blowin' in the Wind. It is chronologically listed between The Adventures of André and Wally B. and Beach Chair, meaning the short was produced between the years of 1984 and 1986. As it doesn't have significant mention outside of the DVD, it can be assumed it was a simple test animation like Beach Chair and Flags and Waves, and much like Flags and Waves was created by animator Bill Reeves [2] While Beach Chair and Flags and Waves were re-released on Pixar Short Films Collection Volume 1, Blowin' in the Wind was never publicly released.

According to a individual who is known to own the Made In Point Richmond DVD, it was indeed a short computer animation test clip created by Bill Reeves for Pixar in 1985.[3]
