When Bakshi pitched the film to Jeff Sagansky, the president of TriStar Pictures production at the time, he was given $150,000 for production of the film. This funding prompted Bakshi to move back to Los Angeles. However, the duo was evidently unable to fully produce the film by the time Sagansky left TriStar, which forced Bakshi to re-pitch it to TriStar. The new executives didn't see the appeal, however, and ended up cutting off his finances. Bobby's Girl is an unfinished animated film produced by Ralph Bakshi and John Kricfalusi. Bakshi saw the potential in Kricfalusi and decided to work on a project with him. The film was to be a parody of 80's teen films like 16 Candles and The Breakfast Club.

When Bakshi pitched the film to Jeff Sagansky, the president of TriStar Pictures production at the time, he was given $150,000 for production of the film. This funding prompted Bakshi to move back to Los Angeles.
