Bunyan & Babe is a CGI animated film directed by Tony Bancroft and Jim Rygeil, starring the voice talent of John Goodman as legendary giant lumberjack Paul Bunyan. Starying away from traditional methods, as Bunyan & Babe was a mix of CGI and live-action. It was originally slated for release in 2011 but was lost in the shuffle when studio MGM filed for bankruptcy in 2010. In 2014, Cinedigm bought the rights to all of the films from Exodus Film Group including Bunyan & Babe. The movie was finally released on the Google Play store in January of 2017.

Plot

Twelve-year-old Travis Barclay and his little sister Whitney are sent on a summer trip to visit their grandparents' farm. A greedy land developer named Norm Blamsford is trying to buy up the entire town and trying to force the residents off of their land. One day, Travis has an encounter with one of Brlamsford's men and is chased into the forest. In the forest, Tavis finds a magical portal that leads to a universe where Pual Bunyan lives. Paul has been in self-exile for a hundred years due to the machines. Paul escorts Travis back to his grandparent's farm where he sees the plan to buy up the city. Finding a new purpose, Paul and his blue oxen find a purpose and fight off the plan to develop the city.[1]

Production

Production for Bunyan & Babe began in 2008 when Exodus Film Group and Sparx Animation Studios announced a new movie after coming off of the success of the movie Igor.[2] Both studios wasted no time and began production with the film set for a 2011 release date. On October 30, 2010, MGM who was going to distribute the movie filed for bankruptcy.[3] The bankruptcy of MGM put the future of Bunyan & Babe into uncertainty. Throughout the restructuring of MGM, the film became lost.[4] Despite this, the film was still listed on Exodus Film Group's official website before its release.[5] Despite the film being lost, Exodus Film Group still was determined to have the film released. On May 8, 2014, Cinedigm which makes independent budget films gained the rights to all of Exodus Film's library including Bunyan & Babe.[6]

Release

After nearly a decade of being lost, Bunyan & Babe was finally released onto Google Play for free in January 2017.
