Status: Partially Found

Caillou is a Canadian educational children's television series that was first shown on Télétoon and Teletoon, with its first episode airing on the former channel on September 15, 1997; the show later moved to Treehouse TV, with its final episode being shown on that channel on October 3, 2010. The series is based on the books by author Christine L'Heureux and illustrator Hélène Desputeaux. It centers on a 4-year-old boy named Caillou who is fascinated by the world around him. A British dub was made to port Caillou to the British childrens television market, though it has not resurfaced after it stopped airing on Cartoonito.

History

Starting in 2008 and lasting until the week of February 27th, 2012, Cartoonito aired a British dub of Caillou but only the first season was aired. Cartoonito would usually only air the show during the Early Morning hours between 4:00 A.M. and 7:00 A.M., making it even less likely that people who taped Cartoonito would even have footage of this dub, briefly before the show was taken off of the air, its time slot at 6:50 A.M., was replaced by Cartoonito Karaoke, and when the show was removed from the lineup completely, it was replaced by Fireman Sam.

According to YouTubeFan43, in the British theme song, Caillou's mom's voice is redubbed, but oddly Caillou's voice when he is singing is not. Also according to a viewer, Caillou had a deeper voice in the UK dub, which is proven by some of the clips found.

Avalability

While Caillou is currently available in the UK via Tiny Pop, Amazon Instant Video, Netflix, and Tiddlers TV, currently, the Canadian dub of Caillou is used for rebroadcasts. No Caillou VHS's or DVDs have been released in the UK, making the British dub harder to find.

The Cartoonito page for Caillou has been found. It does have some video clips, but they don't play, as the videos were not correctly archived for them to play.[1][2]

An older Cartoonito page for Caillou has been found, and the videos on that page don't require Flash, but they require Windows Media Player. The videos on that page don't work as none of the .wmv videos for any of the pages have been archived either, downloading or playing the pages will either leave a blank screen, or show that the website that sources the file has not been archived.[3][4]

Another Cartoonito page has been found which says has Caillou games and might have videos of the UK dub on it. The page archive goes up to 2016, and the games do not seem to be working.[5]

A promo for Cartoonito UK using a snippet from the British version of Caillou's crying from the infamous episode "Caillou Joins the Circus" was found by JaredCaptainAmerica43, though it is very brief.[6]
