In 1980, MTM Productions created a half-hour animated special based on the popular recurring unseen character from The Mary Tyler Moore Show's spin-off, Rhoda. Carlton Your Doorman perhaps inevitably (being now the focus in a visual medium) chose to actually depict the lazy-voiced but well-meaning dimbulb doorman, voiced by Lorenzo Music of 1980's Garfield specials, The Real Ghostbusters, and Disney's Gummy Bears fame. Music also produced this show, as he did many of the MTM series in that era.

This special was seemingly only broadcast once, and as far as can be determined, is no where to be found for purchase, download or bootleg viewing. Only stills are available. Whether it is truly lost or merely held by MTM Studios for some reason is completely unknown.

In a nod to where it spun off from, some of the mail Carlton drops in the episode reads 'Morgenstern', the Rhoda character's last name. The one-shot featured Carlton's daily habits, including flirting with joggers and making the rounds of local watering holes.
