I have read that these pieces were lost during the production of NPR's Return of the Jedi radio drama. Inexplicably, Lucasfilm sent them the ORIGINAL MASTER TAPES to use to make the background music, rather than the much more logical methond of making high-quality duplicates and sending them instead. Long story short, they never got the the tapes back. Either the tapes got lost in the mail on the way back, NPR copied the tapes to make their own edits and never sent them back (meaning they may still have them), or the worst possible scenario, they actually sliced up the masters to make their edits.
