Interesting story. It's well documented that the original cut of the film did indeed use a decent amount of genuine slaughterhouse footage, (1) with only a few seconds appearing in the current version. I'm a bit sceptical of the claims made here, but I'm always interested to chase up a line of enquiry.

For some basic credentials, I'm a film critic and amateur film historian, you can find examples of my work (some admittedly better than others) at my website www.jackwholman.com. I've spent the last 8-months composing a biography of Roger Watkins (currently approx. 80-pages). I've reached out to various individuals associated with Roger, including a few who've never been interviewed in print on the subject before, and I've gone through every film or interview involving the man that I could get my hands on.

Currently, the only footage that seems to exist from this cut is about 20-minutes of silent outtakes included on various DVD releases of the film, with Watkins stating in a Q&A held at the Cinema Wasteland convention in October 2002 that he found the footage 'in [his] cellar'. (2) It should go without saying that any new footage surfacing would be a revelation.

If you'd be willing, I'd love to talk privately about this subject. I can be reached at jackwholman@gmail.com.
