Originally created for the 1989 Tim Burton Batman film, "Dance with the Devil" was based around the Joker's famous catchphrase/question, "Have you ever danced with the devil in the pale moonlight?". It was chosen to be included in the film's soundtrack after "Batdance," but was ultimately removed because Prince felt it would have been too dark for the album, named after that song.

While it was never officially released, it was used in some promo material for the film before its release. Due to Prince's high efforts to have none of his music on YouTube or other such sites, the song was generally tough to find until he passed away in 2016. The song was eventually released on an unofficial bootleg album titled The Work Volume 3.[1]
