The Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z movies were films in the famous Dragon Ball franchise that was dubbed by French company AB Groupe for the European English-speaking market.

Background

After AB Groupe completed their alternate English dubs of Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball GT, the company began production on their own English versions of the various movies and TV specials in the franchise for the European television market. Unlike the TV series, which were produced by Ocean Productions and its sister studio Blue Water in Canada, these were dubbed in France with English-speaking voice actors living in the country.

Availability

As these dubs were primarily produced for TV broadcast, only a select handful was put out on home video. Dragon Ball Z movies 2-4 were released in the United Kingdom, but follow-up film releases were cancelled due to poor sales. The first nine Dragon Ball Z movies, plus the two Z TV specials, were released on DVD in the Netherlands by Bridge Entertainment.

The first three Dragon Ball movies, as well as the GT TV special, were dubbed by the company and aired on Toonami in the UK in 2005 but have no known home video release. It is suspected, but not confirmed, that AB Groupe had produced English dubs for the (then) remaining four Dragon Ball Z features.

Cast

Due to the poor reception and the laughability of the dub, many voice actors and actresses have distanced themselves from the AB Groupe dub of the Dragon Ball movies. The voice actors and actresses that have revealed themselves as to be in the dub have said they often had to voice multiple roles.
