Status: Partially Found

The Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z movies were movies in the famous Dagon Ball franchise that was dubbed by French company AB Groupe for the European English speaking market. A few of the movies that were dubbed by AB Groupe have since surfaced, while the rest remain lost or in some cases, unconfirmed.

Background

After AB Groupe completed their alternate English dubs of Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball GT, the company began production on their own English versions of the various movies and TV specials in the franchise for the European television market. Unlike the TV series, which were produced by Ocean Productions and its sister studio Blue Water in Canada, these were dubbed in France with English speaking voice actors living in the country.

Availability

As these dubs were primarily produced for TV broadcast, only a select handful was put out on home video. Dragon Ball Z movies 2-4 were released in the United Kingdom, but followup film releases were canceled due to poor sales. The first nine Dragon Ball Z movies, plus the two Z TV specials, were released on DVD in the Netherlands by Bridge Entertainment.

The first three Dragon Ball movies, as well as the GT TV special, were dubbed by the company and aired on toonami in the U.K. in 2005 but have no known home video release. Online clips are limited to promos from the TV run. It's suspected, but not confirmed, that AB Groupe had produced English dubs for the (then) remaining four Dragon Ball Z features.

As of the writing of this article, only Dragon Ball Z movies 1 through 9 and the three TV specials from Dragon Ball Z have since surfaced.

Cast

Due to the poor reception and the laughability of the dub, many voice actors and actresses have distanced themselves from the AB Groupe dub of the Dragon Ball movies. The voice actors and actresses that have revealed themselves as to be in the dub have said they often had to voice multiple roles.
