Easy A is a teen comedy film originally released on September 17, 2010 in the United States.

While the film was in production, the original script contained much more coarse language than what ended up in the final film, including 47 uses of 'fuck' and cruder sexual language/terms throughout.[1]

The director shot R-rated and PG-13 versions of many scenes, as it was uncertain at one point during production what route/audience the film would be aimed at. However, the distributor Screen Gems decided that a PG-13 rating would be the most beneficial for the film; therefore, the tamer cuts were used, and the final version of the film was rated PG-13 for "mature thematic elements involving teen sexuality, language and some drug material."[2]

Unlike other cases such as The Ghost Writer where the uncensored version of a film has been released internationally in territories where language doesn't so heavily affect the age rating, the same cut of Easy A was released worldwide. No unrated home video version was offered, likely due to the main demographic of the film being teenagers; therefore, the R-rated/more profane version of the film has never been publicly seen.
