Gyoku (秋霜玉 lit. Autumn Frost Orb) is a vertical-scrolling danmaku shoot 'em up game developed by Shunsatsu sare do? (瞬殺サレ道?) that was released for Windows in December 2000. Shuusou Gyoku is the first official installment of the Seihou Project, a danmaku video game series that served as the opposite of the Touhou Project by Team Shanghai Alice (上海アリス幻樂団) that ran from 1998 and is currently on hold since 2008, with no further plans to make any more games.[1]

Shuusou Gyoku Prototypes

In 1998, a protoype of the game Shuusou Gyoku, originally going by the name of "Project Gian - Shuusou Gyoku Prototype" (Project Gian - 秋霜玉プロトタイプ), was released at the Hatoyama Matsuri of Year 98 at the Tokyo Denki University Hatoyama Campus for the PC-98. This version of the game had the original version of the theme "Fly Above Hatoyama At Night" ("夜の鳩山を飛ぶ") composed by ZUN, but was later unused. In 1999, the game was ported to the Windows Operating System under the name "Neo Gian ~ Shuusou Gyoku", more popularly known arbitrarily as "Shuusou Gyoku '99", for that year's Hatoyama Matsuri. This version of the prototype included a soundtrack containing four themes that were unused in the final game, with another five possible that were left untitled and unreleased as seen in a found screenshot of the prototype.

Soundtrack

The soundtrack included the themes:

00 "Plastic Space" (Stage 1)
01 "Frontal Attack" (Stage Boss)
02 "Inventive City" (Stage 2)

All tracks would later be released by ZUN, with "Plastic Space", "Inventive City," and "Fly Above Hatoyama At Night" being included in ZUN's Strange Works (その他の作品 ~ ZUN's Strange Works; その他の作品 lit. Other Works) and also posted to his website, only with the exception of the track,'"Frontal Attack."

Frontal Attack

"Frontal Attack" is the title given to a track used in the 1999 Seihou Shuusou Gyoku prototype, or Shuusou Gyoku '99, produced by Touhou Project creator ZUN, who at the time produced the game's soundtrack. It was used in the prototype as the boss theme for both Stage 1 and Stage 2. Not much is known about this track, as the theme itself nor any comments about it were released by ZUN or any of the Seihou Project members.

On March 22th, 2018, Seihou Project creator Ponchi (ぽんち), otherwise known as pbg, recorded gameplay of Shuusou Gyoku '99 and posted it to his nicovideo, featuring a portion of "Frontal Attack" over various sound effects. The video of which has since been deleted 3 days after posting.[2] Youtube user Romantique Tp, known for making recordings of various ZUN tracks on the Roland SC-88Pro Sound Canvas, has re-uploaded the video since Ponchi's initial posting.

To this day, the entirety of "Frontal Attack" has yet to be released, rendering it completely lost outside of the only existing game footage.
