In April of 2010, French death metal band Gojira announced that they would record a five-track EP with all proceeds going toward the anti-whaling organization Sea Shepherd. The album was to be recorded in a Los Angeles studio and would feature well-known artists in metal including Randy Blythe (Lamb of God), Anders Fridén (In Flames) and Max Cavalera (Soulfly, Cavalera Conspiracy). The EP was also slated for a digital release on the band’s website.

The EP never had a confirmed release date, but was intended to come out around 2011. By October of that year, it was revealed on Gojira’s Facebook page that the album would be delayed due to the crash of the hard drive containing the EP's work. It was also mentioned that they were ready to record their next studio album. (which was released in 2012 as L’Enfant Sauvage)

In an interview for heavy-metal news site MetalSucks, frontman and drummer Joe and Mario Duplantier confirmed that the EP was almost finished but due to the crash, the band had to try and recover the tracks as well as re-record material. By then, they were more focused on recording their next studio album and the EP was shelved indefinitely in favor of L’Enfant Sauvage.

Outside of being referred to as the “Sea Shepherd EP,” it is unknown if the album had an official title. No cover art or track list has ever surfaced for the EP, and the only fully completed track is a 6-minute song titled “Of Blood and Salt,” featuring Canadian musician Devin Townsend and Meshuggah guitarist Fredrik Thordendal. There is also a video about the making of the album.
