Heathcliff: Bad Kitty (lost cancelled animated movie; 2011)
Heathcliff: Bad Kitty is an unreleased animated feature film based on a comic strip by the same name.
It was meant to be released in the holiday of 2011, but was never released for unknown reasons. It was to be part of a new wave of Heathcliff-themed products in an attempt to regain interest into the franchise.
The film was to be made by Waterman Entertainment / Magic Lantern Studios, and distributed by 41entertainment. They were chosen because of their "impeccable track record" of Stuart Little, Alvin and The Chipmunks, and Casper the Friendly Ghost. The film and it's spin-offs were meant to kickstart interest into the Heathcliff brand.
A trailer was released in March of 2010, and was storyboarded by Swinton Scott & Barry Caldwell. Both were contacting regarding the film, and had no new information, stating it was done for fundraising.
The film was estimated to be release around the 'holiday' of 2011, coincided with a 2d-animated '13 x 52' episode television show in the spring of 2013. Neither of these projects were ever released, with news being noticeably absent in the subsequent years.
Other spin-offs included video game tie-ins by Storm City Games. Two out of three of them were released; Heathcliff: The Fast & The Furriest, Heathcliff: Frantic Foto, and an unnamed, unreleased iTunes app.
According to the footage that has been released, the film's story would've revolved around Heathcliff returning 3 'bratty' kittens to their parents. These characters' appearance seem to be exclusive to this film.
Because no other footage of the film has been released, it's extremely difficult to know if the film was actually produced. Both of the storyboard artists said to have worked on the trailer said that they were never brought back, and one stated that it was done as a means to 'raise dough' for the project. Still, several [press] [releases] from the distributor of the film show evidence of the film at least getting close to completion.
The 2d animated film has no evidence to it's existence, though was said to have been worked on by Renegade Animation.
