The James Bond Car Collection was a magazine series which ran primarily in the United Kingdom, beginning in 2007 and ending in 2017. The series comprised a collection of model cars which featured in all of the released James Bond movies at the time.[1]

Background

Eaglemoss Publications first announced the James Bond Car Collection series in 2007. The series would feature issues released every fortnight (later changing it to a monthly release) that comprised of a magazine and a 1:43 diorama model of a James Bond car from one of the movies. The cars were displayed in a plasic case on a 3D base mimicking the scene that the car appeared in in said movie. Some of the more famous cars in the collection included the Aston Martin DB5 from Goldfinger, the Aston Martin Vanquish from Die Another Day and the Lotus Esprit from The Spy Who Loved Me among many others. The models were designed and created by Universal Hobbies. The magazines contained technical details on each car released with it, as well as various other content relating to the James Bond movies. A total of 135 issues were released from 2007 to 2017, though the last issue was released much later on to coincide with the newest James Bond film at the time Spectre. A further three models were also included as gifts which could be purchased by early subscribers to the magazine. The first issue was priced low at only £1.99 while subsequent issues were all priced at £7.99, with the entire collection costing over £1,000.[2] The magazines were available to purchase at any local newsagents or supermarkets in the magazine section.

The series would also be published in various other countries across the world including France, Germany, The Netherlands and Spain.[3] The original first issue from the United Kingdom contained the Aston Martin DB5 from Goldfinger, but other countries released different cars as the first issue that were more synonymous with the respective country. The announcement of the magazine series came in the form of an advertisement showing some of the various models in the collection while previewing the Goldfinger DB5 as the first car.[4]

Availability

The original United Kingdom advertisement for the James Bond Car Collection had not surfaced anywhere online in full. However, three international adverts from Malaysia, Italy and the Czech Republic are available to watch. The Malaysian advert previews the BMW Z8 from The World Is Not Enough as the first car in the series[5] while the Czech Republic previews the Lotus Esprit from The Spy Who Loved Me as the first car in the series[6] The Italian advert however, does preview the Goldfinger DB5 as the first car, but the magazine notably has a different design compared to the original UK release.[7]

While all three of these international adverts closely resemble the original UK advert, they are not simple redubs and have some form of variation, meaning the first and original United Kingdom advertisement is entirely lost.
