Jay and Silent Bob Reboot is the 8th film in Kevin Smith's View Askewniverse movie series. Set roughly 13 years after the events of Clerks 2, Jay (Jason Mewes) and Silent Bob (Kevin Smith) set out to stop a movie adaptation of the Bluntman and Chronic, 2 superheroes they inspired, while Jay comes to terms with being a father. The film is meant to be a satire of the concept of reboots while being a reboot and reunion of sorts for the various characters from the various View Askewniverse films. At the live Q&A of the Detroit MI screening during the reboot roadshow (and possibly other screenings), Kevin Smith spoke of 2 separate events that drastically changed the original script.

San Lee's Passing

In the film Kevin Smith plays a fictional version of himself that is set to direct the Bluntman V Chronic film, who later is captured by the villains of the movie in the 3rd act and must be saved by Jay and Silent Bob. According to the Q&A, this character was going to be played by Smith's mentor and friend Stan Lee, presumably as an exaggerated caricature of himself. With Lee's passing in late 2018, Smith had to rework the script to no longer be Stan Lee, and instead replace him with himself. It is unknown how far Stan Lee's character got into production and if any test footage exists.

Ben Affleck's Reunion

Ben Affleck was a close personal friend of Kevin Smith early in his career, staring in 2 of Kevin Smith's movies (Jersey Girl and Chasing Amy) and appearing in 4 other View Askewniverse films in minor or cameo rolls. In the years since Clerks 2, Smith and Affleck had a falling out and hadn't talked in years prior to the production of Reboot. In one of the final scenes, Jason Mewes' real life daughter Logan Lee Mewes was set to cameo as a girl dressed up as Jay with her dad dressed up as Silent Bob at Chroniccon (an in universe comic book convention for Bluntman and Chronic) to inspire him to be a better father. This changed when Ben Affleck mentioned in an interview that he would have liked to be in Reboot, prompting Smith to reach out to him and write him into the script. An original idea was for Affleck to play one of the henchman in the climatic fight scene, but after further brainstorming decided it would be better if he reprised his roll of Holden from Chasing Amy, where Logan Lee plays his daughter which inspires Jay to be a better father. Since this was filmed late in production, it is possible the alternative Logan Lee scene was filmed, but it has not been made available.
