'Kõige suurem sõber'(The Biggest Friend) is an Estonian television series for children broadcast in 1982–1990. It is one of the most popular Estonian series and a symbol of childhood in this country.

Background

Kõige suurem sõber debuted on ETV in 1982. The program featured a huge fluffy creature named Leopold and other more or less repetitive characters. The performance was written by Lilian Põldre, directed by Tiiu Vahi and artist Gunt Randl. Little is known about the episodes from 1982-1988 because they were completely lost, but the cause is known. most of the magnetic video tapes used for storage of the show have been recycled due to the perestroika-era deficits.

Notoriety

In early 2007, Ken Saan and others planned to create an disrespectfully parody series,"Täna Õhtul Leo Põld", using the characters of this show in a grotesque way. Many people considered it extremely stupid and objected in different ways.Although a few episodes were produced, the series was canceled even before the pilot episode, scheduled for May 15, 2007, was released due to the death of Dan Põldroos, one of the main parody actors. In response to the controversy, the Estonian National Broadcasting decided to mark some of its most famous characters, including kõige suurem sõber characters. The broadcast of the pilot episode was moved to 6 September 2007 at 22:05, but on 5 September 2007 Harju Maakohus issued a temporary injunction against the broadcast until ETV's copyright was infringed. In 29 January 2009, Harju Maakohus dismissed the application and overturned all the interim orders relating to it, ruling that the why plaintiff had not proved that the defendant was the producer of the show and therefore goes that the real defendant had already been sued.
