Kidd Video (partially lost DiC animated series; 1984)

On September 15, 1984, the first episode of a short-lived Saturday morning cartoon called Kidd Video aired on television. Later it would become a sensation, as the show would have constant popular songs by Lionel Richie or The Police, the main characters themselves being a band named after the show. Kidd Video seemed unstoppable, people called the band the next Monkees and they would have interviews and even perform live in Isreal. Their music would be released on cassette and vinyl and the show's select episodes would be released on their own VHS tapes. That is until the show was canceled on December 7th, 1985 for unknown reasons. Many if not all episodes included a music video, the last episode even including A-ha's Take On Me.

The Aftermath

All episodes still exist and can be viewed via YouTube on a channel titled Toolbot (named after a character from the show). The unfortunate thing is, many are of low quality and many of the original music videos are cut out due to copyright violation. It is also highly unlikely that we will ever see an official release of the film, even when there is a petition going on right now. It is rumored that it is now owned by Disney, but given the obscurity of the show and how dated it is, it is unlikely that Disney will put any effort in releasing it. Rumour has it that the films themselves were destroyed, leaving us only with foreign prints and VHS recordings.

Misc.

Many items were created as merchandise, story cassettes, an album, coloring books, a personal cassette player, yogurt, even a card game. None of these have high-quality scans or audio rips, besides the vinyl record which's audio is available for download at the Kidd Video Flipside (a fansite).
