Months after the game's release, Electronic Arts closed down the studio, Bioware Montreal, leaving fans with little to no expansions or DLC. One of these anticipated story arcs involved the quarians, who requested a rescue. Unfortunately, many players will not be able to play this subplot due to the DLC's cancellation. Mass Effect Andromeda is a spin-off game of the Mass Effect series. It was released in March 21st, 2017 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC to mixed receptions. Some of the biggest complaints were its technical issues and facial animations.

Cancellation

The Quarian Ark was one of these anticipated DLCs and involved a plot around the Quarians. It is unknown how far development into the Quarian Ark got before BioWare Montreal was shut down. It is possible that the plot would focus on what happened to the crew aboard the Quarian Ark Keelah Si'yah.

Months after the game's release, Electronic Arts started to merge the studio Bioware Montreal with EA Motive.[1] As BioWare Montreal was the studio that worked on Mass Effect Andromeda, this meant the subsequent cancellation of all planned DLC leaving fans with little to no expansions or DLC. The move left fans of the game outraged at the lack of closure in the overall story.

On Mass Effect's official website, the following was stated about the cancellation of all DLC: Early in development, we decided to focus Mass Effect: Andromeda’s story on the Pathfinder, the exploration of the Andromeda galaxy, and the conflict with the Archon. The game was designed to further expand on the Pathfinder’s journey through this new galaxy with story-based APEX multiplayer missions and we will continue to tell stories in the Andromeda Galaxy through our upcoming comics and novels, including the fate of the quarian ark.[2]

Novel

Though gamers will not get to experience DLC, an official novel titled Mass Effect: Annihilation will be published on June 26th, 2018, and will formally conclude as to what happened onboard the Quarian Ark Keelah Si’yah.[3]
