The '''Nickelodeon HALO Awards''' (meaning '''H'''elping '''A'''nd '''L'''eading '''O'''thers) was an annual awards show that aired between 2009 and 2017. It aired as the ''TeenNick HALO Awards'' on the TeenNick channel from 2009 to 2013. In 2014, it was rebranded as the ''Nickelodeon HALO Awards'' and aired on every Nickelodeon channel, save for TVLand and Nick Jr. The concept of the show revolved around acknowledging teenagers who are doing good for their community and the world. Each teen would receive approximately $10,000 to help further their education, donate to their charity, or donate to their charity of choice. About four teenagers would be selected to win the prize each year. As well as the awards, each show would have numerous celebrity musical performances and special guest appearances. The show was canceled in 2017 after Viacom enacted budget cuts and shifted focus to the so called "six prime brands"<ref>https://www.mesaonline.org/2017/02/09/viacom-unveils-five-point-turnaround-plan-mesa/</ref>, and despite airing for nine years, there is only one full version (and very few clips and information) available online.

The Nickelodeon HALO Awards (meaning Helping And Leading Others) was an annual awards show that aired between 2009 and 2017. It aired as the TeenNick HALO Awards on the TeenNick channel from 2009 to 2013. In 2014, it was rebranded as the Nickelodeon HALO Awards and aired on every Nickelodeon channel, save for TVLand and Nick Jr. The show was canceled in 2017 after Viacom enacted budget cuts and shifted focus to the so called "six prime brands"[1], and despite airing for nine years, there is only one full version (and very few clips and information) available online.

Award Show Years

2009

The 2009 TeenNick HALO Awards aired on the TeenNick channel on December 11th, 2009. The award show was hosted by Nick Cannon (as well as for every other Nickelodeon HALO Awards), with guest appearances by Justin Timberlake, LeBron James, Alicia Keys, and Hayden Panettiere. The teens awarded were Leah Stoltz (for raising awareness for scoliosis), Darrius Snow (for helping lower the crime and violence rate in his community), Megan Kilroy (for helping clean her local beach and ocean), and Bryan Jackson (for raising awareness for HIV/AIDS). There were no concerts this year. YouTuber Originalsboy uploaded a Google Drive link for two recordings; one from TeenNick without commercials, and one incomplete recording from Nick@Nite.

2010

The 2010 TeenNick HALO Awards aired once again on TeenNick on December 10th, 2010. Guest appearances include Ashton Kutcher, Rosario Dawson, Mariah Carey, Justin Timberlake, Alicia Keys, and Wyclef Jean. This year, the teens awarded were Herold Charles (for helping victims of natural disasters), Joshua Hall (for raising awareness for child slavery), Lauren Huichan (for helping change the foster care system), and Jordan Somer (for making a pageant for girls with disabilities).[2] Once more, there is very little known about this show, and very few clips have surfaced online.

2011

The 2011 TeenNick HALO Awards aired on TeenNick on November 7th, 2011. Unlike other shows, it has almost no information surrounding it. Only one teenager presented the award is known to date. His name is James O’Dwyer, and he was awarded an award for starting a tornado relief project. His award was presented by Taylor Swift, who is the only known celebrity in attendance.[3]

2012

The 2012 TeenNick HALO Awards aired on November 19th, 2012, on TeenNick. There were guest appearances by Tyra Banks, Ne-Yo, Neon Trees, Emma Stone, Justin Bieber, and Josh Duhamel. This year, five people were presented with the HALO award. The teens awarded were Taylor Waters (for teaching about disaster relief), Matt Ferguson (for creating care packages for chemo patients), Kylle Lan Tumlatti (for helping enhance language skills of younger children), Allyson Ahlstrom (for distributing clothing to disadvantaged teen girls), and Raymone George (for creating an afterschool program to teach dance to underprivileged kids).[4]

2013

The 2013 TeenNick HALO Awards aired on November 17th, 2013, on Nick at Nite, and had an encore viewing on November 18th, 2013. Guest appearances include Shay Mitchell, Josh Hutcherson, Chris Paul, Queen Latifah, Darren Criss, and Chloe Bennet. The show opened with a musical performance by Fall Out Boy, in which they sang Alone Together. Austin Mahone also had a performance, in which a medley of What About Love and Banga! Banga! was sung. Enrique Iglesias closed the night with a performance of Heart Attack. The teenagers honored were Miranda Fuentes (for helping eliminate social stigma around autism), Zachary Kerr (for being a transgender activist), Rocio Ortega (for helping educate less privileged women), and Denzel Thompson (for organizing local farms for his community).[5] There is only one promo available online.

2014

The 2014 Nickelodeon HALO Awards aired on November 30th, 2014, on most Nickelodeon channels. This year, it was re-branded from the TeenNick HALO Awards to the Nickelodeon HALO Awards, as well as began airing on most Nickelodeon channels. Guest appearances included Zendaya, Victoria Justice, Jack Griffo, Kira Kosarin, and Carlos PeneVega. There were musical performances by Jessie J, Meghan Trainer, Nick Jonas, and Fifth Harmony. The teenagers honored were Lulu Cerone (for helping people give back to their community), Yash Gupta (for donating glasses to less privileged youth), Cassandra Lin (for encouraging restaurants to recycle their grease), Nicholas Lowinger (for helping donate essentials to homeless youth), and Alanna Wall (for bringing nail art to children in hospitals).[6] There are almost no clips available online.

2015

The 2015 Nickelodeon HALO Awards aired on November 29th, 2015, on most Nickelodeon channels. Guest appearances and performances included Justin Bieber, DNCE, Tori Kelly, Fifth Harmony, Flo Rida, and Walk the Moon. The teens acknowledged were Riley Gantt (for providing school supplies for students regardless of economic circumstances), Joshua Williams (for distributing food), Ethan Cruikshank (for providing free music lessons), and Ruchita Zaprade (for donating sewing machines to help people support their families).[7] The Nickelodeon page still does exist for this year’s show, however, all clips are unable to be played.[8]

2016

The 2016 Nickelodeon HALO Awards aired on November 27th, 2016, on most Nickelodeon channels. Performances at the awards show include JoJo Siwa, Daya, Hailee Steinfeld, Alessia Cara, Jason Derulo, and Zedd. The teens awarded were Grace Callwood (for aiding homeless children), Chris Suggs (for helping lower the crime rate in his hometown), Jonas Corona (for helping disadvantaged families), and Lillian Pravda (for helping provide eye-wear to those who cannot afford it).[9] Only a handful of promos and commercials are available online.

2017

The 2017 Nickelodeon HALO Awards aired on November 26th, 2017, on most Nickelodeon channels. There were musical performances by Kelly Clarkson, Kelsea Ballerini, Hey Violet, Ayo and Teo, Jacob Sartorius, and Why Don’t We. The teenagers awarded were Zoe Terry (for donating dolls of all races), Andrew Dunn (for doing random acts of kindness), Caleb White (for helping homeless families), and Raegan Junge (for donating products to help victims of natural disasters).[10] Kelly Clarkson was awarded the HALO Hall of Fame award. The reason for it not being aired anymore is unknown.

The HALO Effect

The HALO Effect was a TV series that aired on Nickelodeon in January 2016 and was hosted by Sydney Park. The concept of the show revolved around having an episode dedicated to a teen doing good in their community. The show is available in full for purchase on Amazon Prime Video.[11]
