On the 18th of August 2016 at around 8pm in Japan, the First Episode of “PJ Berri Mogu Mogu Monya Monya” (Eng. PJ Berri Munching Mumbling) aired on the Japanese TV network Fuji TV. The anime was produced by a Japanese studio named Doga Togo in cooperation with Parappa´s and PJ´s designer Rodney A. Greenblat.

Its main focus, was to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Parappa the Rapper video game released in 1996 for the Playstation and the 15th anniversary of the anime adaptation, which aired from 2001 to 2002, also on Fuji TV. It also was used as a marketing tool to promote the 2016 remaster of the first Parappa the Rapper video game for the Playstation 4 in Japan.

Overall the series consists of 2 Seasons, the first Season has 20 Episodes and the second Season has 6. The Episodes normally average around 90 seconds each. In October 2016, it became a regular segment on Fiji TV´s “Hi Poul” late-night programming block.

Plot

As the name of the show suggests, it mostly revolved around Parappa´s friend PJ Berri. But other characters from the games and anime also made appearances, Such as Chop Chop Master Onion, Lammy, Katy Kat, Mar-san, Sweety Bancha, Sunny Funny, Matt Major, Paula Fox and other Characters, some old and some new ones.

The plot of most episodes (Season 1 mostly) was PJ being an advice giver of some sorts, helping others with their problems. He would do this, by mumbling in his sleep. PJ would dream of himself being the king of “PJ-Land”, while his advisors ask him for solutions, when problems arise. Meanwhile, Parappa works as a part-time employee at the “Chop Chop Fruites Cafe”, run by Chop Chop Master Onion.

Status

Out of the 26 Episodes, 11 Episodes from the first season and all Episodes from the second Season are available to watch on Youtube (detailed list further down below). There is no DVD or other hardcopy of the series, yet it is rumoured that you can watch all the Episodes on Fuji TV´s website, when paying a subscription, this is just a speculation though.

On the 28th of September 2019, a promotional video for the anime was found on Youtube, which shows 2 scenes from what is guessed to be Episode 20: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GeDAlIfgPX0.

Websites

The show also had its own official website (https://web.archive.org/web/20170915070809/http://www.pj-mogumunya.com/ ), where people could by merchandise and keep up with events such as the “Game 20th Anniversary & Anime 15th Anniversary Parappa-Anniversary Fest”, which started December 4th and ended January 15th in Tokio, Japan. The website itself, can only be reached by the “Wayback Machine”, since its now defunct. A link on the website would send you to Fuji TV´s website, where a page named “Go to Fuji TV” would have been displayed, detailing where the event would have taken place. It too, can only be connected to by the “Wayback Machine” now. (https://web.archive.org/web/20170908214623/http://www.fujitv.co.jp/gotofujitv/ ) The show also had an official Twitter account, they last posted on the 30th of January 2017.

The Anime itself has been mentioned on several other websites, for example “Crunchyroll”, where a member by the name of “Eddie1255” has posted about the anticipation of the series (https://www.crunchyroll.com/forumtopic-962673/pj-berri-no-mogu-mogu-munya-munya-anticipation ). Other sites like “Myanimelist”, further confirm the existence of all unavailable Episodes from Season 1 (https://myanimelist.net/anime/33835/PJ_Berri_no_Mogumogu_Munyamunya ). One review exists on the page, posted on October 7th 2017 by a member named “Keitaro004” (https://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=1562520 ) A forum about the show named: “This Anime Has Already Started Broadcast”, posted by a user named “Irisinabottle” on the 20th of October 2016. Here is what they wrote:

“The regular broadcast of this anime began on October 14. Newest episodes can be watched in anime online in this program http://fod.fujitv.co.jp/s/genre/variety/ser2318/2318810021/ The anime's Twitter is tweeting about the broadcast too. https://twitter.com/PJ_mogumunya For some reason, MAL won't let me add it to my list.”

Typing in the first URL, will connect you Fuji TV´s website, but the page displayed, will say that the content is not available at the time. The other URL, will connect you to the Twitter account mentioned.

Keitaro004 responded on the 24th of February 2017:

“Thanks for the link! I've been able to record every episode thanks to that site. The videos are blocked outside of Japan, but it works fine with VPN services like "Hotspot Shield". MAL haven't accepted the entry, so it's still not possible to add it... Hope they will hurry up, the show is already at its' 18th episode.”

A single post on Reddit by a user named “DiluteFlea”, asked if there where missing Episodes of the Series, another user named “KarateManJoe”, answered:

“This is as far as I could get to finding a place to watch it.

http://fod.fujitv.co.jp/s/genre/anime/ser5582/5582110001/

This is all 20 episodes, but I think it's behind a paid Japanese subscription service. This was a helpful phrase in looking for it, if anyone can find another way: PJベリーのもぐもぐむにゃむにゃ【完全版】”

The link would send you to the Fuji TV page of the anime. Tumblr on the other hand has a whole blog dedicated to the anime, where multiple screenshots of later Episodes (probably Episode 11 to 20) were uploaded. In 2017 a user by the name of “Anpandough” uploaded 10 Episodes of the series to Facebook (for me its a dead link now). The same year, a youtuber named “Parappathehat” uploaded 9 of the ten given Episodes with sound and the 10th without any sound, but provided a link to a website called “Kissanime”, where the pilot episode, as well as the 10th with sound and the 11th Episode were found.
