Super Junior (Korean: 슈퍼주니어; Syupeo Junieo) is a South Korean boy band. Formed in 2005 by producer Lee Soo-man of S.M. Entertainment, the group comprised a total of thirteen members at its peak. Super Junior originally debuted as Super Junior'05 with twelve members, consisting of leader Leeteuk, Heechul, Hankyung, Yesung, Kangin, Shindong, Sungmin, Eunhyuk, Donghae,Siwon, Ryeowook and Kibum. Kyuhyun joined the group in 2006. The group officially debuted on SBS's music program Popular Song on November 6, 2005, performing their first single "Twins (Knock Out)". The group debuted with 11 Korean members and 1 Chinese member, Han Geng. Since Han Geng was the first Chinese person to debut in Korea, Han Geng and SM didn’t know about the laws. Hangeng found out that his visa was wrong, and that he was no longer allowed to perform until the Visa problem had been solved. There was also a law saying that foreigners could only perform on 3 TV channels. Basically, Hangeng was told that he would be fined or even kicked out of Korea if he performed on TV. Since he wore a mask… he was able to perform.

Hangeng, on the left, wearing a mask. (This was not the performance where he was unmasked.)

He continued to wear his mask for 2-3 months. He was seen as a backup dancer for the majority of the performances. His lines had to be lip-synched by other members while he was still hiding in the back. Then finally, a member of the group, Heechul took of Han geng's mask and pushed him to the front of the stage. Hangeng dance without his mask for the remainder of the performances. A clip or full performance of this incident has never been uploaded or seen to most of the public. Those attending the live performance were the only ones to see the performance. It will probably never be found.
