Super Mario Spikers is a game that developer Next Level Games Pitched to Nintendo in the early years of the Nintendo Wii. The company had previously made the games Super Mario Strikers (2005, GameCube) and Mario Strikers Charged (2007, Wii), both Mario-themed soccer games. The game was originally solely a Mario-themed volleyball game tentatively titled Mario Volleyball, but Next Level Games later decided to also include wrestling game mechanics. Nintendo ended up rejecting it because it went against the company's code of honor, and production stopped in 2007.
