Super Meat Boy is an indie platform game developed by Team Meat and is the successor to Edmund McMillen’s and Jonathan McEntee’s flash game, Meat Boy, originally released on the Newgrounds website in October 2008.

The Developers originally announced a release of the game for every major console and computer: Xbox 360 Live Arcade, PS3, PSN, WiiWare, PC and MAC

The game was originally going to be a Wiiware exclusive as well as a multiplayer mode but these plans were scrapped The Wiiware and Playstation Network versions have been cancelled. Super Meat Boy on Wiiware was taking a long time to be made and had some delayings. After some time, Super Meat Boy was officially cancelled since the Wiiware service allows to publish games on the store with a maximum of 40MB. Super Meat Boy was much more then that. It was also cancelled because they were not able to find a publisher[1].

Differences

Being one of the earliest prototypes of the game ever made, it had a lot of major differences. These include a different character select screen, unknown levels that are possibly redesigned levels or scrapped levels that never made it to the final game. There are also differences with The Forest boss, as seen in IGN's preview of the game. It also had no sound effects in the map selection screen, the cutscene for the first chapter was animated differently, and the backgrounds seem to be much more detailed then the final.

This prototype has never been released or leaked in any way, making it unlikely that it will ever be found. However, IGN uploaded 2 videos in 2011 (One year after the games release) showcasing short gameplay of the WiiWare version. It is unknown whether or not Team Meat still has the ROM.
