The Adventures of Dewey the Dolphin, also simply known as Dewey the Dolphin, is an unreleased title for the Nintendo Entertainment System that was originally meant to come out in 1991.

Dewey the Dolphin was meant to be published by the illustrious Ocean Software, a figurehead in Video Game Publishing through the 80's and 90's. Programmed by Allan Shortt, and graphics by John Palmer. It was originally sought out to be a coin-operated arcade game, but later switched to the Sega Genesis/Megadrive due to budgeting reasons, and it's final version was to be made on the Nintendo Entertainment System.

Though some rumors speculate that the project was cancelled due its similarities to the Sega Genesis title "Echo the Dolphin". These rumours lose all substance when considering that Echo the Dolphin had actually not released at the time of Dewey the Dolphins development, Echo would not release until December of 1992.

The more likely explanation is Nintendo shutting down the development of the project due to it having an incredibly late launch window, it was just that year the Super Famicom launched in Japan and it's American equivalent, the Super Nintendo Entertainment System was slated for a western launch later the same year.

The Adventures of Dewey the Dolphin was announced in issue #13 of Electronic Gaming Monthly magazine with the following blurb: "Swim through the depths of the ocean watching out for all of the hungry fish who are looking for a tasty morsel for dinner. Meet up with Neptune, the Ocean God."[2]

No prototype has been made available, and apart from two screenshots, little to no other information on the game is known.
