The Cheetah Girls is a Disney Channel original movie series that consisted of three films. Due to the popularity of the first film, plans were written up for a TV series that would air on ABC.[1] Production for the planned television series ran into multiple setbacks due to conflicting production schedules among the various actresses involved. While one episode is alleged to have been filmed in 2003, the rest of the season was scheduled to begin production in 2004. Conflicting reports among the cast of The Cheetah Girls claim as to why the series never took off or aired and the one alleged episode that was filmed has yet to air.

Background

On August 15, 2003, the Disney Channel aired the movie The Cheetah Girls which followed four teenage girls as they aim to be superstars in a girl band. The movie was a massive success with 84 million viewers worldwide, 800,000 DVDs sold, the soundtrack ranking thirty-third on the Billboards top 100 charts, and winning four awards.[2] Disney, seeing the success wanted to have a spin-off television series starting the cast of the first movie.

Production

The Cheetah Girls was supposed to air during the 2004-2005 season on ABC. The plot for the TV show is unknown but it is most likely set after the events of the first movie as the band focusses on their career. It is alleged that up to four episodes were shot around late 2003 and the rest were supposed to be done in early 2004. At least one episode was confirmed to have been shot. It is still unknown just exactly how many were actually completed. The show's production ran into some difficulties as at the time Raven Simone was on another popular Disney show at the time called That's So Raven. This put her at odds with The Cheetah Girls as she wanted to focus solely on the former as opposed to taking on another big role.[3]

Cancellation

The Cheetah Girls ended up not being picked up by ABC. The reason why is not known, but speculation is that it was due to Simone not being able to participate in the show. Instead of filming a series, Disney worked on a sequel television movie titled The Cheetah Girls: When In Spain which aired on August 25, 2006.

Availability

The episodes that were allegedly made never aired on television and, due to the fact that The Cheetah Girls brand is long dead, it is unlikely the shot episodes will ever be aired. As of the writing of this article, none of the alleged filmed episodes have been released.
