Status: Partially Found

The Grubbs is an unaired 2002 American sitcom TV series that was to be aired on Fox and was based on the 1970s British sitcom The Grimleys. The series was a co-production by Granada Entertainment USA and 20th Century Fox Television and would have starred Michael Cera, Randy Quaid, Carol Kane, and Lori Rom.

The show was first announced in May 2002 and was to be aired on November 3rd at 9:30 PM after Malcolm in the Middle,[1] but the show was shelved two days before its premiere due to the show's negative reception from critics.[2]

Plot

According to news articles, the show would have been similar to The Grimleys, but it's set in western Pennsylvania in the fictional steel town of Hackville.[3]

The series would have been about an underachieving, American blue-collar family and also about the family's 14 year old son Mitch Grubb's desire to escape his family's low status.[4]

Cancellation and Availability

Though Fox had originally ordered 13 episodes of the show to be made during its production, it was later reduced to 8 episodes for "economic reasons".[5] The show was negatively received by critics and was voted the worst new fall show of 2002 in a Daily Variety poll by television critics.[5]

As a result of the show's negative reception from critics, Fox decided to scrap airing the show two days before it was supposed to air and was replaced with a re-run of Malcolm in the Middle.[6]

Though the show's unaired pilot episode has been leaked online to Archive.org on October 25, 2017, the other seven produced episodes haven't seen the light of day and it's unknown if Fox or the show's production crew still has copies of them.
