The Hills Have Eyes is a 1977 exploitation film made by Wes Craven that was inspired by the story of the Sawney Bean Clan. The original cut of the film was far more violent and graphic than the final product, but the MPAA wouldn't give it an R rating until some of these scenes were toned down. Very little if any of the original cut has surfaced.
Cut Scenes
Many scenes from the original version of the film were either toned down or cut entirely to get approval from the MPAA, including:
- The scene where Jupiter beats Fred to death.
- The scene where Mars and Pluto kidnap the baby.
- The scene where Katie hits Jupiter in the back with an ax.
- The scene where Jupiter eats Big Bob's arm was also more graphic, with Jupiter shoving one of the arm's fingers into Bob's eye among other things.
