For the film adaptation, a scene with the Patrick Bateman character had been written and filmed, with the character played by actor Casper Van Dien. The scene was not included in the final film.

The Rules of Attraction is a 2002 film adaptation of the Bret Easton Ellis novel of the same name. The movie is a satirical black comedy about a love triangle between three college students.[1]

The novel included an appearance from the Patrick Bateman character from Ellis' novel, American Psycho. The character is the older brother of one of the Rules protagonists, Sean Bateman. For the film adaptation, a scene with the Patrick Bateman character had been written and filmed, with the character played by actor Casper Van Dien. The scene was not included in the final film.

The existence of the deleted Patrick Bateman scene was alluded to on the Rules DVD commentary track and also confirmed by Bret Easton Ellis.[2] To date, the deleted scene has not surfaced.
