The Screener is a four-part comedy series animated in Flash, starring a man named Neil that listens to harassing messages on his answering machine, mainly from his ex-girlfriend, failed dates, and other sources.
It is currently unknown where the original series was hosted, but since the earliest record of the flash was an online upload to a comedy site a college student made with server space from the University of Washington on November 4th, 2011, it's a safe bet that the files were made sometime during that year or earlier. Three of the files were recovered via the use of the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine on this now-defunct site.
Recently, a source came forward that had a backup of the remaining file that was not archived.
The series is notable as being the work of Jason Axinn, a well-known director. A graduate of USC's Cinema-Television School, Jason has directed/edited over 150 short films for clients that include The Black Eyed Peas, Funny or Die and the Upright Citizens Brigade. He's worked with James Gunn, Will.i.am, OKGO, Matt Besser and Phil LaMarr, and directed commercials for Microsoft, Verizon, Sega, Qualcomm, and Kingston, plus several TV pilots. Jason is also an accomplished screenwriter whose scripts have garnered him relationships with Sony, Pixar, and Dreamworks. One recent project was his work as director of Malevolent. An attempt was made to reach him regarding the series, and he confirmed that he was indeed the same Jason Aximm that worked on the series. However, when asked if any of the files were still available during the search, communication dropped off. In addition, there is no mention of the series on his IMDB profile, and until now, the files seemed to have vanished from the internet with no search results.
