Revision as of 19:20, 28 August 2022
ToonHeads was an American animation anthology series consisting of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Hanna-Barbera, Warner Brothers, Jay Ward and Popeye shorts, with trivia in between shorts about the studio who made it, a character in it, etc.. Each episode would have a different theme.
ToonHeads was originally broadcast on Cartoon Network from 1994 to November 23rd, 2003. Reruns aired from 2003 to 2005 on Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, and Boomerang. Making it one of the longest Running Cartoon Network series. The series included eighty-two episodes, two one-hour specials, and one half-hour special, which was never aired.
ToonHeads had three runs throughout its runtime. The initial from 1992 - 1995 was a simple anthology with a simple premise introduced at the beginning of each episode and accompanied by abstract almost creepy visuals. This run only lasted one season.
The second run aired in 1996. While it maintained every from the first, now the narrator would have small facts and trivia about each cartoon. This run only lasted one Season. Cartoon Network cancelled the show after an unsuccessful 4-year run.
Miraculous the show was rebooted in 1998 for a third run. With writers such as George A. Klein and Animation historian Jerry Beck, along with narrator Leslie Fram. This run featured episodes with an emphasis on showcasing mostly Warner Bros. cartoons (also some MGM and Fleischer Studio 'Popeye' titles) grouped into broader themed subjects. This revised formatted episodes feature some cartoon and live-action clips plus still archival photos, and a segway audience teaser segment called "Toon Heads Trivia". This run lasted a total of six seasons from 1998 - 2003.

Season 3
This season is the next most complete, with twenty-eight episodes available. There were two specials entitled "The Twelve Missing Hares" and "The Worst Cartoons Ever Made" that ended up not being aired. The former was possibly going to show the twelve banned Bugs Bunny cartoons collectively referred to as The Twelve Missing Hares, and the latter was likely going to showcase various different cartoons infamous for their poor quality. The specials may have remained unaired due to the former containing cartoons infamous for their offensive content, and the latter likely heavily criticizing the cartoons featured.[3][4]

Notes
- In S02E06, "Midnight in the Bookstore", during the weekend of March 19th, 1999, "You're An Education" was replaced with a redrawn print of "I Like Mountain Music" (WB). "Speaking Of The Weather" (WB) was the cartoon shown after that. "Book Revue" (WB) then followed. New wraparounds were made for "I Like Mountain Music" and "Speaking Of The Weather" during the weekend of October 6th, 2000.
- In S02E20, "Toro! Toro!", technical difficulties caused "The Mice Will Play" (WB) and “Sheep Wrecked” (MGM) to play instead of “Bully for Bugs”, and “Senor Droopy”, respectively. There was also the usage of bumpers from S02E19, "The Nice Mice of Warner Bros”. The correct cartoons and segments were reinstated on October 1st, 1999.
- The only sort of home media release the show has ever had was the Toonheads special: The Lost Cartoons and can be found on Disc 3 of The Looney Tunes Golden Collection Volume 1. as a bonus feature
