Prehistoric Planet (partially found Discovery Kids edutainment series; 2002-2003)
Prehistoric Planet was a children's edutainment series that aired from October 5, 2002, to April 26, 2003. The series was a sanitized kid-friendly edit of the hit BBC nature documentary shows Walking with Dinosaurs and Walking with Beasts. The series was divided into two seasons, with one being narrated by Ben Stiller and the other by Christian Slater.[1]
Each episode followed the same formula as the original shows, highlighting the daily lives of dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals. What differentiated this show from the original shows was that each episode contained "fact files" for their featured animals and the narration was typically more sarcastic and humorous in tone. Select scenes depicting mating and gory imagery were removed, while other scenes depicting violence were softened up by the narration.[2] Reruns lasted until October 10, 2010, when Discovery Kids rebranded itself to the Hub network.
Avaliability
The first season was released onto home video and DVD under the umbrella "Prehistoric Planet - The Complete Dino Dynasty".[3] However, the second season was never released in any physical media format and remains lost. The only known surviving material from the show's second season is the season's intro and stills from select episodes that were found by DeviantArt users JAM-MAN1998 and Bvega41.[4] Bvega41 claimed that they found five of Season 2's episodes through a foreign piracy website.[5]
