Status: Partially Lost

SpongeBob's Nicktoon Summer Splash was a programming block that ran from July 3rd to September 1st, 2000, and June 18th to August 31st, 2001, on Nickelodeon. The block ran in the afternoon for 3 hours, which changed during the last week the block ran to be 6 hours. The block revolved around the SpongeBob cast (SpongeBob and Patrick as the hosts, Sandy as control, and Squidward as a co-host) hosting interstitials throughout programming.

Programming was done in marathons daily on weekdays, which was in the following order:

  • Rugrats
  • Rocket Power
  • The Wild Thornberrys
  • Hey Arnold!
  • Rocko's Modern Life (later replaced by CatDog within a week of the block premiering)

The block was later replaced with Nicktoons Summer Beach House which ran from the summers of 2002 to 2003 and followed a similar concept to the former. Later in the summer of 2003, Nicktoons TV brought back the block and extended it's schedule to 12 hours. The block in it's early broadcasts was notable for having poor quality animation.

The block also aired internationally later on, in Australia, Italy, and the United Kingdom. In the United Kingdom, the block was instead called "SpongeBob TV" for unknown reasons, and used an altered schedule which was shorter and ran in the morning.[1][2][3]

Availability

Most of the bumpers have resurfaced through personal tapes, although some are still incomplete or missing. It is unknown how many bumpers existed for this block outside of the one's that are known to exist.
