The Brazilian Job was a cancelled sequel to the hit 2003 movie The Italian Job. As The Italian Job was hitting its final theatrical run in the summer of 2003, there were already rumours of a sequel to the movie. A July 2004 Variety article stated that Paramount Pictures had signed John Goldwyn as producer and screenplay. While locations in Paris and the Swiss Alps were being scouted out for possible filming sites. Variety soon followed up the article in September of 2004, by confirming that filming would start in March of 2005 and that Mark Wahlberg, Charlize Theron, Jason Statham, and Seth Green would reprise their roles.

By November of 2004, as key people from Paramount Pictures began to step down like Sherry Lansing and The Brazilian Job was running into script issues. This would push the film's production back to 2006 for a summer 2007 release. Actors like Mark Wahlberg were losing interest in the film by 2005 when he stated in an interview with MTV "It's all about the script. ... I'm only making movies now that I want to see, or that I think that people want to see me in," and further stated, "A lot of people really liked The Italian Job, and a lot of movie sequels don't live up to the original, so we want to make it as good, or better." The film fell further behind when by August of 2007 two rough drafts of the movie were written, but none had been greenlit.

Seth Green began to cast his doubts about the future of The Brazilian Job in a 2007 interview when he stated: "My assumption is because the hierarchy at Paramount changed hands four times since we put that movie out, it's gotten somewhat lost in the shuffle." Other actors like Jason Statham had said in a March 2008 interview with IGN stating: "You know, I've been talking about that for two years: The Brazilian Job. I think somebody should just erase it from IMDb. Save us all a problem, and put it back on there when it's fully due and ready. I don't know. It's one of those things that's just sitting around."

It was evident by this time that the lead actors were walking out on the project. Although Mark Wahlberg claimed in 2010 that The Brazilian Job was actively in production again. Despite this claim, production on the movie has not been active since 2007.

On February 21st, 2022, the screenplay for the film was made public by LMW user YoshiKiller2S after recovering it off of Script Hive.
