September 16, 2003, saw the release of BIONICLE: Mask of Light, the first of four direct-to-video movies spun off of the Lego BIONICLE toyline. This movie introduced a new member of the heroic Toa Nuva warriors: Takanuva, the Toa of Light. It also marked the first time the franchise's main antagonist, Makuta (later known as Teridax), made a personal appearance in a BIONICLE story. Naturally, Lego started selling toys of both characters around the time of the movie's premiere. Unfortunately, the English version of the commercial for the toys has not appeared online-only the French version.

Transcript

"Takanuva, Toa de la Lumière, doit affronter son destin et sauver les habitants de l'île de Mata Nui. Réussira-t-il à vaincre Makuta, le Maître des Ténèbres? BIONICLE: la légende continue!"

Translation: "Takanuva, Toa of Light, must confront his destiny and save the people of Mata Nui Island. Will he succeed into defeating Makuta, Master of Darkness? BIONICLE: the legend goes on!"

Research

On the 8th April of 2016, after contacting Lego's Customer Service about the commercial the day before, an LMW user received the following reply:

''"I tried to find the 2003 Titan commercial in English for you, but you've probably already looked everywhere I can! I found the one in French you mentioned and found other commercials in English. Sadly, I wasn't able to locate the Bionicle Titan one for you. My apologies that I wasn't able to help you with that."

I 100% remember seeing this commercial as a kid. The fact that it is lost kinda makes me feel like part of my childhood is gone lol

There are quite a few missing Bionicle Commercials in English. For example the Bohrok Kal ad can only be found in French. The 2007 Titans can only be found in Spanish and some like the 2001 Turaga cannot be found at all.

Adding to the list of supposedly lost Bionicle commercials, I have never seen the ad for the European Nestlé promotional tie-in since it originally aired on TV in 2001. It was about those bonus CDs they would package with cereals, and featured a CG animated Tahu appearing behind some kids playing the CD game.

The English version of this commercial was in the extras menu for the Mask of Light on DVD. I cant prove it, though because I have that away to Goodwill 5 or so years ago.

If it helps any, I remember the shot with Makuta had the narration saying "It's time to face Makuta, master of shadows"

I swear I've seen this before, like online or something. Or maybe I just have faulty memory and it was somewhere else. Another bunch of lost Bionicle commercials are the ones from Nickelodeon. They were promotions for the Stars line and had mockups of the characters. Sadly all the videos of them have been removed off of the web. Some screenshots remain which you can find in the 'Fake Bionicle Leaks' thread on the TTV Message Boards.
